The Cure for Loneliness | John 10:1-42
Sermon Summary
In John 10:1-42, Jesus tells His followers that He is the only door to abundant life. As we go through His narrow door, we come out so much more free, because He leads us to a better way than that of the world.
Jesus is a Good Shepherd, and He is not done with our fold. He has more sheep He wants to bring in!
One Big Idea
Jesus is the only way to the abundant life. Trying to get life through any other way will not last.
Key Scriptures:
Psalm 23:1-4 (ESV): “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
John 14:6 (ESV): “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 10:10 (ESV): “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
Truths to focus on this week:
Jesus leads us: Jesus goes before us and leads us to Himself, into a family, and to our
purpose (relationship with the Father).
Jesus speaks to us: Jesus knows His sheep and calls them by name. His voice always speaks His truth, purpose, love, and security over us.
Jesus protects us: No one will ever be able to separate us from Jesus; we are His forever.
Discussion Questions
Loving the Word shows that we belong to Jesus. How has your hunger for the Word been this week?
There are many competing voices in the world (teachers, friends, parents, etc). When voices compete can you recognize Jesus’ voice and the conviction of the Holy Spirit from the rest?
The abundant life is not just for heaven but for now. Is your walk with Jesus characterized by passion? If not, what’s hindering that (sin, lack of assurance, etc.)?
