Psalm 27 | Summer in the Psalms
Sermon Summary
Psalm 27 teaches us how to find strength in the midst of life’s greatest challenges and enemies. It shows us that we cannot have or sustain a relationship with God without a zeal for His presence. It also teaches us to surrender ourselves to the Lord and take courage as we patiently wait for His deliverance.
One Big Idea
God calls us to be courageous. Courage is not the absence of fear, but choosing to trust God, have resolve, and move forward despite fear.
Key Scriptures:
Isaiah 40:15 (NASB): Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust.
Psalm 27:4 (NASB): One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: that may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in His temple.
Matthew 7:7-8 (NASB): Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Psalm 27:10 (NASB): For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me up.
Truths to focus on this week:
Faith despite frustration: Many of us face daily challenges and tensions that may cause us to be afraid. However, God wants us to draw from our history with Him to give us confidence and hope.
Perseverance from pursuit: We desire to be a people of the “one thing,” who value fellowship with our Creator, because without God we have nothing. When we go
through our most trying times, we are called to lean in to God for deliverance.
God’s presence and our patience: When we’re under the greatest pressure, we’re often at our weakest and most vulnerable to sin. It’s through prayer and a closeness to God that we receive the strength to remain faithful and stay on the straight and narrow path.
